In-demand Robertson admits debt to Blackpool boss Bowyer
The 24-year-old has enjoyed a fine campaign for the Seasiders, deservedly picking up the club’s Player of the Season award.Robertson, who has just completed his third season with the club, was part of the Blackpool side that was relegated to League Two back in 2016.But since then he has played a leading role in Pool’s revival, becoming one of the first names on the teamsheet.He made 39 appearances in League One this season, scoring twice.The Scot told The Gazette: “On a personal level, I think I had a great season. I had a wee injury in October-November time but I came back from it quite strongly and finished the season well.“When Gary came in he definitely improved me, both on the pitch and off the pitch. I’ve now got more confidence in myself.“My all-round game has improved massively in the last two years and I think I’ve kicked on again this season, having come up from League Two.”The left-footed centre-back, who is out of contract this summer, has recently admitted to The Gazette he is in talks with other clubs.While discussions are also ongoing with Blackpool, the Scot has admitted he is keen to challenge himself in the Championship.It comes as Sky Sports linked him, and team-mate Kelvin Mellor, who is also out of contract, with moves to Wigan Athletic or Blackburn Rovers.Bolton Wanderers are also understood to be monitoring developments, while Blackpool attempt to tie the players down to new contracts.Robertson is understood to have been considered for a potential Scotland call-up in the group named by Alex McLeish for their friendly double-header against Peru and Mexico.A date has now been set for Blackpool’s pre-season match away to Crewe Alexandra.The friendly had been all but confirmed by Crewe but yesterday it was confirmed the fixture will take place on Saturday, July 28 (3pm kick off), four days after Blackpool’s first visit to Mill Farm to face AFC Fylde.
