MATT Gilks has been picked out as the best goalkeeper in the Championship.
The man handing out the compliment might be a little biased – his manager.
But Ian Holloway has no doubts about Gilks’ ability, and reckons clubs in the Premier League were mad not to sign the keeper when he was available on a free in the summer.
The Seasiders boss said: “Well done to Matt Gilks because I think he is awesome at the minute. I think everything he does is wonderful.
“He is starting to look like what he was when I first met him, which is someone who had all sorts of potential.
“Now he just completely believes he can use his talents, and he is different class.
“I don’t think there is a better keeper in the Championship.
“Julian Speroni at Crystal Palace is excellent, I have to say, but I think Gilks is tremendous.
“Why someone didn’t take him on a free in the summer I really don’t know.
“What were the top-flight teams thinking of? “They would have got themselves one hell of a goalie.
“He didn’t play more than half of last season for us.
“But have a look at the points we managed to get when he did play. It is pretty phenomenal.
“Nearly every one of those points we got, he had something to do with it.”
