Freddy Adu says the intensity of Blackpool’s training has come as a huge shock – but he’s loving it.
The USA international has spent the past two weeks on trial at Bloomfield Road in a bid to earn a contract.
The 24-year-old has played in two behind-closed-doors matches and is waiting to learn whether he will be offered a deal.
His arrival on the Fylde coast was big news across the Atlantic, where Adu made his MLS debut aged just 14.
He said of his time in Blackpool: “I’ve loved it. The guys have been great, the coaches have been great and everyone has welcomed me.
“I’m happy here and I’m learning a lot.”
He arrived a little short of fitness, having not played since being released by Brazilian club Bahia in November.
He managed 45 minutes against Rochdale on Tuesday, having also played a half against Pool’s youth team seven days earlier.
Adu has undergone a steep learning curve.
He explained: “The training here is very intense. It’s different to what I’m used to, but I love it and it’s what I need.
“The guys make you part of the team, and it makes you feel good and comfortable.
“The opportunity to train in England came via a mutual friend and was something I couldn’t pass up.
“I love English football – it’s all we watch in America.
“It will be a dream come true to play here one day,” added Adu, who has made 17 appearances for the senior USA national side.
