Billy Ronson, the pint-sized midfielder who became a key figure for Blackpool FC in the 1970s, has died at the age of 58.

Ronson made 128 appearances for the Seasiders from 1974-79, and briefly returned for a second spell in the 1980s before emigrating to America.

According to reports in America, Ronson was found dead at his home in Baltimore on Wednesday, but the cause of death is not yet known.

Ronson’s father, Percy, was a Fleetwood Town legend in the club’s non-league days, and was so highly regarded that he had a stand named in his honour.
