Blackpool FC has key role at heart of community says chief executive Ben Mansfor...

The head shave is due to take place on Tuesday, April 7 and will be live streamed on Twitter.

Dobbie, who enjoyed four separate spells with the Seasiders between 2010 and 2014, had initially set a fundraising goal of £1,000.

But that target has already been smashed and, at the time or writing, the total stands at almost £2,500.

Dobbie, who now captains Scottish Championship side Queen of the South, said: “We are living in frightening times at the moment and my family and I are following the government guidelines to stay home and save lives.

“However, my family and I felt like we wanted to do something more to help our amazing army of NHS staff who are on the frontline battling COVID-19 head on.

“So I decided along with my two sons, Jack, 10 and Maxwell, 7, that we would shave our heads to raise money for the NHS Charities COVID-19 Urgent Appeal.

“The kids are very excited to do this and my wife Susanne will be sure to capture the event and post the video on her Twitter account @susanne_dobbie.”

The 37-year-old added: “We love our football and miss being able to play but this horrible virus puts things into perspective and football has to take a back seat.

“When you hear stories from around the world we are so lucky to have our NHS so we want to do what we can to show our support for those in the frontline.

“I know everyone is facing financial uncertainty but even if you could spare £1 we would be so grateful if you could sponsor us in our #shaveitoff event to raise money for such an important cause.”
