Martin Paterson and Andy Little are closing in on Blackpool starting places, after impressing their boss.
The pair came on as substitutes in the win against Peterborough on Saturday after both having stop-start opening to life at Bloomfield Road.
Paterson’s cameo at Wigan caught the eye followed by another battling display at the weekend.
And McDonald has backed the former Burnley man and Preston loanee Little to make an impact.
“Paterson and Andy Little have both been waiting on their chance,” said McDonald.
“They have both been training really well and I think Martin is nearly there now. He’s looking really sharp now.”
Paterson has managed just nine appearances in a Pool shirt since joining on a free transfer in September.
A number of niggling injuries have hampered his progress so far, but he’s been involved in both of the last two games.
On Saturday he was forced off half an hour after coming on as a substitute, feeling a problem in his calf.
But McDonald hopes it was more of a precaution than anything else.
He said: “Martin ran his socks off when he came on and felt his calf go a little bit tight.
“So I took him off, I didn’t want to take any chances.”
