Interim Blackpool boss Terry McPhillips believes his side's 0-0 draw at Shrewsbury Town today was "about right".

MATCH REPORT: Shrewsbury Town 0-0 Blackpool

The two sides cancelled each other out in a dire game at the New Meadow, where neither goalkeeper was seriously tested.

The home side just about edged it on the balance of play but they had to wait until the 89th minute for their only genuine clear-cut chance of the game.

“I thought the draw was fair," McPhillips said. "They were the better side first half, but I thought we were slightly stronger than them in the second half.

“They had a good chance first half when Shaun Whalley went through, but in the end neither goalkeeper has had enough work to do so it’s about right.

“I thought we defended brilliantly. They had that one break when they went through, but all-in-all I was really pleased with the defending.

“Neither goalie has had a proper save to make so 0-0 is about right.”

McPhillips was taking charge of the Seasiders for the third time as interim boss, and that's a position he expects to remain in for the following week.

Pool return to action on Tuesday night when they welcome newly-promoted Coventry City to Bloomfield Road before hosting Accrington Stanley next weekend.

“I expect to be preparing the team for Tuesday and hopefully Saturday," McPhillips added.

“I’ve not had any information about timescales as such, but I do expect to take charge of the next two games.

“But we know it’s football and anything can happen, so we will just crack on.”

When asked if he has any temptations of taking the manager's job on a permanent basis, Gary Bowyer's former number two said: “It is different when you’re actually picking the team.

“Obviously I picked a team where people might have thought ‘that’s a bit different’, so that’s exciting. That gets the adrenaline going.

“Even standing out as the interim manager, it is different.

“I’ve really enjoyed that and I’m really looking forward to the next two games, if that’s what I can do. Then we’ll go from there.”
