Blackpool seek signings but boss Neil Critchley says January window is so tough

The defender missed Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Hull City as a precaution after reporting mild symptoms.

The 24-year-old, who returned a negative test at the back end of last week, was then re-tested on Monday, which came back as positive.

“We can confirm that Demetri Mitchell has returned a positive COVID-19 test,” Blackpool said in a statement.

“In line with EFL and Government protocol, the 24-year-old, who has displayed mild symptoms of the virus, is now self-isolating.

“The club would like to wish Demetri a speedy recovery and looks forward to welcoming him back to training in due course.”

No other positive tests were returned from yesterday’s mandatory round of testing of Blackpool’s squad and staff.

Pool’s squad is already stretched as it is, with Daniel Gretarsson, Keshi Anderson and CJ Hamilton all sidelined for a “lengthy” period of time.

Dan Ballard, Grant Ward and Bez Lubala all picked up knocks during the weekend encounter at the KCOM Stadium and will continue to be assessed ahead of tonight’s game against Northampton Town at Bloomfield Road.

The Seasiders are especially short in the forward areas following the recent departures of loanees Dan Kemp and Ben Woodburn.
