David Dunn warns Blackpool that AFC Wimbledon will be wounded after Oxford United defeat

Caretaker boss David Dunn expects to see a much-improved performance from AFC Wimbledon against his Blackpool side than the one he witnessed in midweek.

Dunn was at the Kassam Stadium on Tuesday night to watch the Dons get thrashed 5-0 by promotion-chasing Oxford United.

It leaves Glyn Hodges’ side hovering just seven points above the drop zone in League One, with sides below them still having games in hand.

Wimbledon, like the Seasiders, have only won once in 2020 but Dunn expects to see a much improved display from Pool’s opponents this weekend.

“I watched them on Tuesday night at Oxford, I went down and had a good look,” Dunn said.

“Oxford were excellent both in and out of possession, however I’m not naive enough to think it’s going to be the same game on Saturday.

“It’s going to be a tough game for us, because they’re at home and they had been on a decent run.

“I know Glyn very well, so he will be wanting a reaction from his players and I’m sure he’ll get it. That means we’ll have to be at our best.”

Saturday’s trip to Kingsmeadow will be Dunn’s second game in caretaker charge, having overseen the unfortunate 2-1 defeat to Bristol Rovers last week.

On the experience of being the main man, Dunn said: “I thought it was absolutely fine.

“I thought the lads acquitted themselves really well. The way they played both in and out of possession was excellent.

“Even with 10 men, we created some really good chances and on another day we could have been 2 or 3-0 up. But credit to them, they stuck in.

“It just sums our luck up at the minute that the lad (Alfie Kilgour) will never stick another one in like that for the rest of his life.

“It’s a hell of a strike and then the second is a deflection.

“It’s disappointing in terms of the result, but as I said last week, in terms of what I’ve seen from the players I was pleased.”

Jay Spearing is available for selection after missing last week’s game through concussion. The Seasiders will also continue to monitor Armand Gnanduillet and Gary Madine.
