STEPHEN Crainey has signed a new contract at Blackpool
The popular defender had looked set for the exit door at Bloomfield Road and had been linked with moves to Wigan Athletic, Swansea and Bristol City in recent weeks.
However, Ian Holloway has convinved him to put pen-to-paper on a new two-year deal.
On the deal Crainey said “I’m absolutely delighted, everybody knew that I wanted to stay at the club and it took a little bit longer than I would’ve liked but after the speaking to the chairman over the past few weeks we’ve both come to an agreement on both sides.
“I’m settled in the area, my kids are at good schools, one of my kids starts school in September and my missus has just given birth so I’m absolutely delighted that we’re staying in the area because we’ve loved every minute of it,” he said.
“It’s been an unbelievable, the chairman text me at 7 o’clock and we were texting each other back and forth and late last night I actually cycled to the stadium to sign because I hadn’t done any pre-season training.
“It’s been a whirlwind 24 hours and I’m absolutely delighted now that it’s done with and I can really focus on the football and being part of the side next season that will hopefully get back into the Premier League,” he added.
“Crainey will now join up with the rest of the first-team squad as the Seasiders fly out to Portugal for their pre-season training camp and he can’t wait to join up with the squad once again.
“I’m looking forward to seeing the lads faces in the dressing room because I think they all think I’m gone.
“I’m not even sure if the manager completely knows that I’m staying yet, so I’ll probably go up to him, thank him for everything and then tell him I’ve signed again!
“I’m really looking forward to going out to Portugal and starting some hard work, I’ve done some training by myself but it’s not the same as being around the team and the banter.”
