The managerless Seasiders have produced two improved displays under David Dunn’s caretaker charge.

Pool were harshly beaten 2-1 by Bristol Rovers in Dunn’s first game while the Seasiders were the better side in Saturday’s goalless draw at AFC Wimbledon.

While the former Blackburn Rovers man has yet to oversee his first win, Maxwell believes the players have shown they’re heading in the right direction.

“There’s a good group of lads in there,” the goalkeeper said.

“We know how good we are and we know how good we are as individuals.

“There’s been a lot of new faces coming through the door in recent weeks and we’ve built a good squad.

“But the thing I’m most proud of in the last few games is the character we’ve shown.

“It’s not great when a good man loses his job. Simon brought me to the club and we all liked him, we all got on well, but it’s a results business.

“We believe we owe it to him and we owe it to ourselves because ultimately we’re the ones that are on the pitch and can make a difference.

“We’ve shown good character and we’ve got to make sure we take it into Tuesday’s game against Bolton Wanderers now.

“The boys are enjoying it. We’re looking forward to the games and Dunny is doing the same.

“He’ll get us on form and hopefully we can produce a similar level of performance to what we did on Saturday, but this time we want to come away with three points.”

It’s been an especially troublesome period for Maxwell, given this is the second managerial change he’s experienced this season.

He was on loan at Scottish side Hibernian earlier in the campaign when Paul Heckingbottom was shown the door.

Then, just 19 days after making the move to Blackpool, Grayson - who had previously managed Maxwell at Preston North End - was given his P45.

When asked if it’s been a difficult time for him on a personal level, the 29-year-old told The Gazette: “I think so, especially when it’s two managers that have brought you to the club.

“It affects everybody, because you just want to be successful. Every player. whatever age you are, wants that.

“We’ve just got to get on with it because it’s part and parcel of football nowadays.

“We’ve just got to make we can do whatever we can individually and collectively as a team to produce good performances.”
