Over the coming weeks, we’ll be dipping into the archives to bring you STEVE CANAVAN’S Gazette reports from a decade ago on Blackpool’s remarkable journey to the promised land.

Charlie Adam has vowed not to change the way he plays, despite being only two bookings away from a three-match ban.

The Seasiders’ inspirational midfielder has 13 cautions for the campaign.

Two more means an automatic suspension and the ban would carry over into the play-offs, should Pool finish in the top six.

Adam has already missed two games this season, including the derby with Preston at Deepdale, after collecting his 10th yellow of the season.

The last thing he or the team wants at such a crucial stage of the campaign is another ban, but it won’t be nagging away at Adam when he takes to the Bloomfield Road pitch against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

“You can’t afford to let it play on your mind. I just play football,” said the 24-year-old.

“You get disappointments in football, and if I pick up two bookings, that’s what happens.

“For me, the most important thing is to make sure I keep playing well.

“I want to help the team win the last few games and try to get in the play-offs. If anything else happens, I’ll take it on the chin.”

Asked if he felt he had been unfortunate to pick up so many bookings, Adam replied: “I think a few of them have been unlucky but what’s done is done.

“But I’m not going to change my game just because I’m two yellows away from suspension.

“I’ll keep going and keep trying to score more goals to help the team. I’m not going to worry about anything else.”

Adam remains disappointed with Saturday’s 4-1 defeat at promoted Newcastle but believes that Pool still have a good opportunity to make the play-offs, especially with two of their final three games at home.

“We are capable of beating anybody on our day and we have been strong at home all season,” he added.

“I think we still have a real chance, especially if we can get the three victories we are aiming for.

“We know it is going to be hard but we intend to keep fighting to the end.

“Newcastle was a big disappointment but on the day they had a player who caused a lot of problems in Jonas Gutierrez, and they had other quality players as well.

“We created a few chances but over the 90 minutes we deserved to get nothing out of the game.

“The fact that Swansea also lost helped us but we cannot focus on anything other our own matches.

“It’s Forest next and that will be tough because they have done really well this year and have already got a play-off place cemented.

“But we won at the City Ground this season, so we know we’re capable of beating them.

“It will be a fantastic game to play in and the mood in our camp is good.

“If we can reproduce the form we had before the Newcastle game we’ll be OK.”

Forest are on course to sell more than 2,000 tickets for Saturday’s clash.

Meanwhile, Blackpool loanee Barry Bannan nipped back to Aston Villa to help them clinch the Barclays Reserve League title.

And he now has his sights set on a starting role for Pool against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Under the terms of his youth loan agreement at Bloomfield Road, Bannan was allowed to play for parent club Villa’s second string against Fulham.

Watched by first-team boss Martin O’Neill at Villa Park, Bannan scored Villa’s first goal with a powerful drive and then created the winner.

He came close to scoring again but saw his free-kick bounce back off a post.

The 20-year-old’s impressive display helped Villa to seal a third successive reserve title.

Bannan has made 17 Pool appearances, nine of them off the bench, since his loan move in November.
