Bristol Rovers 2-1 Blackpool: Seasiders made to pay for wasteful finishing as th...

The Seasiders began the New Year in disappointing fashion, going down to a 2-1 defeat in their opening fixture of 2021.

It ought to have been so different, Critchley’s side failing to build on the good start Gary Madine gave them after just eight minutes.

Despite controlling the first-half, Blackpool wasted a host of promising situations before firing themselves on the wrong end of a quickfire double to somehow find themselves 2-1 down at the break.

Loanee goalkeeper Sam Walker saved his second penalty of the week in the second half to set up an exciting finish, but the men in tangerine were unable to find the back of the net in a hugely frustrating end to the game.

"It was a good game and it was nice to win it," Tisdale said.

"We conceded early but we knew there was still a long way to go. We conceded early at Wimbledon and managed to win the game and we've done it again today. It's a good sign that the side has the ability to do that.

"You often see two goals coming in quick succession and we've done that. It's really important to take the advantage when you have it and we did.

"I'm disappointed we didn't get a goal after half-time because we had a really good start to the second half, we were good value for another one at that point.

"They're a good team, they're well drilled and we had to defend the box. I thought the players at the back really applied themselves to that well.

"I wouldn't say we had a sluggish start, but tactically we had a slow start and it's up to me to look at that scenario. We changed our pattern a little bit and it made a difference, so well done to the players to take those changes on board."
