BLACKPOOL have turned to a boxing hero to give them the knockout punch for the coming season.
British light middleweight champion Brian Rose put Pool’s stars through their paces during a special fitness session yesterday at their Squires Gate training ground.
Pool fan Rose is a friend of manager Ian Holloway and was invited down as part of the club’s pre-season training.
And he was delighted to help out.
“I’ve only just started training again myself, so I put them through the same session i’m doing at the moment,” Rose revealed.
“It was a bit of a shock when I got the phone call asking if I wanted to come down, but it’s been an honour to help the lads out.”
Winger Tom Ince said: “It was a lot harder than what we usually do in training, but it was great.
“It was great to have Brian down here. He’s a champion and it was good for him to come down here and show us what he could do.
“Brian deserves everything he gets. He’s a great lad outside the ring. I’m sure all the lads will be ringside for his next fight.”
Pool’s senior players play their first pre-season game this weekend at Wrexham.
Ince added “Last week in Portugal was tough but it’s something we needed get under our belts. We have to be sharp and ready for the big kick-off.”
And as for any potential future boxing stars among the Pool ranks, Rose had a message for any of the players who fancy their chances.
“I’d batter them all,” he joked.
