'It looked like two teams that are capable of challenging for promotion': Accrin...

The Seasiders battled their way to a goalless draw at the Crown Ground on Saturday in a scrappy encounter played in difficult conditions.

Jerry Yates had Blackpool’s best chance of the game, hitting the foot of the post while former Seasider Dion Charles squandered two or three efforts for the home side.

While Neil Critchley’s side weren’t necessarily at their free-flowing best, Maxwell believes the result shouldn't be underestimated.

“Come the end of the season, I think that will be a good point,” the goalkeeper said.

“You only have to look at the teams that have come here and come away with nothing.

“I’ve spoken previously about the different types of games we as a squad are able to play. On this occasion it was back to front quite quickly, the ball was in the air quite a lot, the pitch was terrible and Accrington were at it, as they always are when they play here.

“To come away with a point but also a clean sheet as well will be big for us come the end of the season.

“They’re a good, hard-working team but we matched them.”

Maxwell added: “We’ve proven over the last few weeks that we’re horrible to play against and we can match the workrate, we can match the ugly side of teams.

“But when we play teams like Portsmouth, when they sat in against us, we were there to pass the ball about and the creative side of our game was there to be seen.

“Things are going really well at the moment. But we’re not going to rest on our laurels, we’ll take each game as it comes and we’ll now look ahead to Rochdale on Boxing Day.”
