The left-back has been with Tranmere since the beginning of the season and has made 24 appearances for the Birkenhead outfit.

The 23-year-old, who is playing alongside the likes of Peter Clarke, Jay Spearing and Liam Feeney at Prenton Park, has helped Keith Hill’s side into fifth place in League Two.

A 2019 signing from Derby County, Macdonald made 19 appearances for the Seasiders during the 2019/20 campaign.

However, Blackpool opted to send him out on loan with James Husband, Demetri Mitchell and Luke Garbutt their three left-backs on their books.

Tranmere boss Hill said: “It is a great approach from the club to protect our interests going forward by turning Calum’s loan deal into a permanent one.

“I have really enjoyed working with Calum so far and he improves our opportunities of winning football matches, so I am delighted he has committed his future with us.

“We want to improve players and he has got the appetite to improve. Calum has the desire and the determination and he is someone we want to continue to work with.

“We are really pleased that he is committed to what we want to achieve this season and in the future as well.”

Macdonald's permanent departure comes after MJ Williams joined Ian Evatt's Bolton Wanderers earlier today.

The Seasiders have until 11pm to make any additions.
