Midfielder Grant linked to Seasiders

Five summer signings have already increased the sense of anticipation around Bloomfield Road.

However, with the new season still six and a half weeks way, Blackpool’s head coach was impressed with the club’s early dealings ahead of yesterday’s return to their Squires Gate training ground.

Speaking last week, Critchley said: “We’re always looking but we have to be mindful of a possible salary cap that could be introduced next season. It’s a balancing act.

“But we’ve got a squad of players and we’ve got enough numbers at the moment, but it’s crucial when we’re identifying players they are for the right positions and that will be the work that carries on over the next few weeks.

“The transfer window is open until October, so that still gives us three months to formulate a squad we feel will be successful next season.

“The later window shouldn’t affect us too much. I think it’s open for the same (length of) time as usual – it’s just been moved because of what we’ve been through.

“We’re working towards that October date, which gives us a few months to get to work with the players on the training pitch and see what we may or may not need.”

He added: “You look at the club and where it is at this stage – there’s a feelgood factor and we want that to continue.

“We’re looking forward to getting back on the pitch but there’s a process we will need to follow if we’re going to be successful. If we do that, then I’m confident success will follow.

“I’ve only been here a relatively short period of time, and the time we will get together in the coming weeks will be really important for the season that is coming.”
