POOL have a golden opportunity to reach the FA Cup fifth round for the first time in 22 years – and gain revenge in the process.
Sheffield Wednesday dumped the Seasiders out of the Carling Cup in August, but Ian Holloway’s men have the chance to make amends after being drawn at home to the Owls in the FA Cup fourth round, a tie almost certain to take place on Saturday, January 28 at 3pm.
It is Pool’s reward for their third round victory at Fleetwood, their first victory in the FA Cup since 2007.
The Seasiders have not had many good cup runs in recent years and last reached the fifth round stage in the 1989-90 campaign.
In that season they beat Torquay 1-0 at Bloomfield Road in the fourth round to set up a home clash with QPR, then flying high in the top division.
Pool drew 2-2 at home, then 0-0 away, before the tie was settled in a third game – played at Loftus Road – which Rangers won 3-0.
