The Seasiders had previously been linked with a move for the 22-year-old last month, only for the deal to break down when Forest manager Sabri Lamouchi included the defender as part of his first-team plans.

Gabriel has already played twice for the Championship outfit this season, featuring in the Carabao Cup game against Barnsley and in the opening day league encounter against QPR.

But following the arrival of Cyrus Christie on loan from Fulham, Gabriel has since found himself back on the sidelines.

Nevertheless, the defender is still highly thought of at the City Ground and it’s understood he could be handed a new contract before sealing his loan move to Bloomfield Road.

The London-born full-back has come through the youth ranks at Forest, having initially started with Arsenal as a youngster before joining Southend United.

He spent a brief spell on loan with Scunthorpe United last season, making 10 appearances.

Ollie Turton has been Neil Critchley’s right-back of choice for the Seasiders so far this season, with Teddy Howe not getting a look-in.
