Blackpool set to sign Rangers keeper permanently?

Goalkeeper Jak Alnwick has an agreement in principle to sign for Blackpool this summer, according to reports.

The 26-year-old is on a season-long loan from Rangers and quickly established himself as the Seasiders’ number one, though he hasn’t played since breaking an arm against Accrington Stanley on Boxing Day.

The Gazette reported last month that Alnwick had been told he had no future with the Ibrox club in Glasgow, where he will be out of contract this summer.

It is now being reported that Alnwick’s injury scuppered a planned permanent move to Blackpool in the January transfer window.

Coronavirus has since seen most transfer and contract negotiations paused as EFL clubs await decisions on how their season is to be resolved.

Former England Under-20 shot-stopper Alnwick started Blackpool’s first 22 League One games this season, conceding 24 goals and keeping seven clean sheets.

After his injury, Blackpool recruited Chris Maxwell until the end of the season.

Ex-Port Vale and Scunthorpe United keeper Alnwick has managed only a handful of appearances since joining Rangers in 2017, with Allan McGregor the club’s first choice.
