BLACKPOOL’S chief scout Billy Dearden has joined Sheffield United.
Dearden, who scored 61 goals in 175 league appearances for the Blades in the 1970s, was approached by new boss Danny Wilson about joining the backroom staff.
Dearden was not under contract at Blackpool and was free to go.
Wilson, who took charge at relegated United three weeks ago, said: “The job Billy’s done at Blackpool has been excellent. I think it’s fair to say he’s helped to bring in some exceptional players for them. He is a top-quality individual.”
Dearden, 67, was the Seasiders’ chief scout for the last three years. He also worked as a coach at Bloomfield Road during Colin Hendry’s time in charge.
