The 21-year-old became Blackpool’s third and final signing of the January transfer window on Monday night, agreeing a loan until the end of the season.

It’s fair to say Sunderland’s decision to loan out a highly-rated player to a potential promotion rival raised plenty of eyebrows.

With Embleton having made just 12 appearances in all competitions for the Black Cats this season, the attacking midfielder is just desperate to get out on the pitch and make his mark.

“I can’t wait to get started,” Embleton said. “It’s a good chance to show what I’m about and get some more game time.

“I found out I could go out on loan on deadline day and I managed to get something sorted pretty quickly.

“Fortunately it was with a good club like Blackpool. As soon as I knew they would take me, I was jumping at the chance.

“I’ve had a few starts here and there (for Sunderland) but it’s been a bit stop-start. With Covid as well, that’s made things difficult.

“I’m just hoping to get a run of games and show everyone what I can do.”

Embleton, who signed a new contract with Sunderland prior to joining the Seasiders, is well known to Blackpool boss Neil Critchley from the academy scene.

“I spoke to him before I signed and he told me he had watched me play in the Under-18s and the Under-23s,” Embleton added.

“He thought I had something that would add to the squad, so I was excited about signing and came down straight away.

“Now I’m just looking forward to this weekend’s game against Ipswich.

“Hopefully I can make my debut. I’ve trained with the lads, but now we’ll just have to wait to see what the manager has got in mind.”

Embleton came through the youth ranks at the Stadium of Light alongside Blackpool midfielder Ethan Robson.

The creative midfielder is happy to be reunited with his old teammate.

“It helps coming into a team where I know one of the lads really well in Ethan,” he said.

“I’ve played with him for a number of years now, since I was 17 really, up to now where I’ve joined him at Blackpool.

“I’ve also been to Bloomfield Road once before as a kid, I must have only been six or seven, to watch Blackpool v Luton. I really enjoyed it.”

Embleton added: “I’m an attacking player that likes to create chances and chip in with the odd goal or two.

“I can go left or right foot, beat people and hopefully get some assists, so hopefully Blackpool fans will see the best of me.”
