Blackpool FC announce appointment of former Sheffield United, Watford and Brighton man as Head of Football Operations

Blackpool FC have announced the appointment of John Stephenson as its new Head of Football Operations.

Stephenson has 24 years of experience working in professional football, having held similar positions at Sheffield United, Watford and Brighton & Hove Albion.

Having started out in youth and academy football with the likes of Reading and Celtic, he's also held several high-profile consultancy roles.

According to the Seasiders, Stephenson will oversee and support the club's football operations, ranging from recruitment to the "continued integration of the academy system".

Due to start permanently on Monday, Stephenson will report to the board with his recommendations and implement them where necessary.

Chief Executive Ben Mansford said: “I am delighted that we have been able to attract someone of John’s expertise and experience to the club.

"John is well known throughout the footballing world.

"John has a proven track record for strategising, implementing processes and unifying football related services to produce a cohesive football operations department to support managers, head coaches and academy directors.

"John will be able to provide guidance to the board and support to Neil Critchley and Ciaran Donnelly, as we all work together to continue taking the club forward.”

The appointment of a Head of Football role was recently alluded to during a fans' forum.
