Blackpool defender picks up award

ALEX Baptiste has been crowned North West Championship player of the year.

The 26-year-old has had a superb 2012 at the heart of Pool’s back four and has recently been rewarded with the captain’s armband.

Baptiste pipped former Burnley striker Jay Rodriguez to the award at a ceremony at Lancashire County Cricket Club, which was hosted by the BBC’s Dan Walker and featured a whole of host of famous footballing names, including Sir Bobby Charlton, Patrick Vieira, David Moyes and Roberto Martinez.

Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini picked up the Manager of the Year crown, while Wigan chairman Dave Whelan was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
