Hide AdThe Seasiders had previously been linked with a move for Gabriel last month, only for the deal to break down when Forest manager Sabri Lamouchi included the defender as part of his first-team plans.
Gabriel has already played twice for the Championship outfit this season, featuring in the Carabao Cup game against Barnsley and in the opening day league encounter against QPR.
But following the arrival of Cyrus Christie on loan from Fulham, Gabriel has since found himself back on the sidelines.
The London-born full-back has come through the youth ranks at Forest, having initially started with Arsenal as a youngster before joining Southend United.

Ollie Turton has been Neil Critchley’s right-back of choice for the Seasiders so far this season, with Teddy Howe not getting a look-in.
Critchley said: “Jordan is a talented modern day full-back and is someone I have been aware of from his early years at Arsenal and Nottingham Forest.
“He will bring athleticism to the right hand side of the team and he is very good defensively in one-vs-one situations.
