Rotherham United defender Curtis Tilt linked with shock return to Blackpool

The 6ft 2ins centre-back, who was first linked with a move to Bloomfield Road last month, becomes the club's 14th addition since the end of last season.

The 21-year-old, who often captains Arsenal’s Under-23 side, was tellingly absent from their squad for their game against Chelsea at the weekend.

“I’m over the moon to be here and really excited to get started," Ballard said of his move.

“It’s a great opportunity to play for a club like Blackpool and I’m really determined to do well here.

"I will offer 100 per cent and will be aggressive and play for the shirt.

“As a young player, it’s important you grasp every opportunity you are given and I will be doing everything I can to help this team push on and be successful whilst I am here.”

Ballard, who has been with Arsenal since he was eight, made three appearances on loan with Swindon Town last season, a spell where his gametime was hampered by a serious knee injury.

The defender was recently called up to Northern Ireland’s senior squad for their upcoming triple header against Bosnia and Herzegovina, Austria and Norway.

Ballard, who is also capable of playing as a defensive midfielder, has already been capped on two occasions by his national team.

He played against Blackpool's youth team in 2018 during the club's impressive run to the semi-finals of the FA Youth Cup, where they were subsequently knocked out by the Gunners.

Pool head coach Neil Critchley is delighted to get his man.

“Daniel is a talented and commanding defender who will add a great deal to the group," he said.

“He’s gained a good football education developing through the age groups in Arsenal’s Academy, going on to captain their Under-23 side.

"He also has experience on the international stage, rising through the youth levels with Northern Ireland to go on and gain full international caps.

“In coming to Blackpool, he is now ready for the next stage of his career. We are pleased to have him here and look forward to working with him during his time here.”
