The Blackpool boss, a fierce critic of the transfer windows and how they interfere with the season, has previously called for the summer window to shut before the new season gets underway.

He has now suggested the January window could be reduced to just one week.

“I’m delighted it’s over,” he told The Gazette.

“I still think a month is far too long, it was ridiculous on Wednesday; you had Premier League games going on when it’s deadline day.

“So I think there’s got to be some common sense and people have got to come together.

“They’re talking about a winter break, well why not use a week or two weeks where that time is where you do your dealings? Then it’s all done. That to me makes complete sense.

“I’m sure there’s other reasons why that can’t be done but it should certainly be looked into.”

Despite Bowyer’s criticism, it was a very quiet deadline day at Bloomfield Road with no arrivals or departures.

The Pool boss revealed the club had interest in signing one or two but those deals were dead in the water on Tuesday, meaning there was little to report on deadline day itself.

Bowyer’s main focus at the start of the window was to keep hold of his best players and that turned out to be the case, as Kelvin Mellor remained at the club despite interest from Wigan Athletic and Bradford City.

The Pool boss even admitted his surprise at the lack of interest in his players towards the end of the window.
