The Seasiders are among a number of clubs permitted to host 1,000 fans inside their stadium as part of a pilot event for the longer-term return of supporters.

Critchley praised the club for making sure they were ready to host fans, but admits it’s now down to the players to cap off their return with three points against Swindon Town.

“It was a great feeling when we found out a small number of Blackpool fans would be able to return. It gives everyone a lift,” Critchley said.

“The club have done a fabulous job in a short period of time to be ready and to be able to open up our doors.

“If you’re looking at the bigger picture, I think it’s massively important for the game in general.

“Hopefully this is a small step in the right direction and we’re delighted we’re going to be one of the clubs that get to host supporters on Saturday.

“It’s important we give those 1,000 fans something to cheer about, although I’m not sure if they can! Perhaps they might have to clap politely and applaud.

“But playing games without the supporters there just isn’t the same. Yes, sometimes you can be engrossed in the game when it’s going on, you’re embroiled in the to and fro of the game.

“But there’s always moments as players and staff that you notice the supporters. That might be before the game when the crowd is building during the warm-up and you get 30 seconds or so to have a look around and sample the atmosphere, it might be when you come out before the game or at half-time, there’s always moments in the game when you feel it.

“Particularly with our supporters, with how well-supported we are and how passionate they are, they will be a big advantage to us.”

The Seasiders have no fresh injury concerns for tomorrow’s game, with James Husband the only doubt.

The defender, who missed last weekend’s opener against Plymouth Argyle, needs to prove his fitness despite returning during the week.
