BLACKPOOL’S players won’t be sweating on Ian Holloway’s team selection ahead of this evening’s derby clash at Turf Moor.
The Pool boss has taken the unusual step of revealing his team to the players, including the seven substitutes, a day early.
It’s a new tactic Holloway hopes will help his charges drag themselves out of a poor run of results.
He told The Gazette: “I’ve done something different to shake everyone up. The team I’ve picked is very attacking and I believe it will be a handful for them.
“I’ve had two weeks to look at what I’ve wanted to do with my team. I announced the team to the players on Friday so they all know what they are doing.
“I’m only taking the starting eleven and seven subs. The rest are staying at home to train.”
Pool have a fully-fit squad for the 5.20pm kick-off, with Craig Cathcart, Tom Ince and Nathan Delfouneso all expected to start after international duty overseas in midweek.
Gerardo Bruna, who scored a hat-trick for the reserves against Fleetwood on Wednesday, looks to have done enough to earn a rare opportunity on the bench for the Sky-televised derby
Holloway added: “Everyone’s got back unscathed and I’m delighted with that
“Having been on a bit of a poor run (Pool have lost three of their last four), we have to go and get a result. What better for us to come back to than a Lancashire derby?”
Around 2,000 Pool fans are expected to make the trip to Turf Moor
Burnley go into the game without a manager – former Pool defender Terry Pashley takes temporary charge – but they do have a goal threat in Charlie Austin, who has netted 15 already this season.
Holloway said: “They have the best striker anywhere in the country at the moment, so we had better not give him a free header.
“I’m really looking forward to the game – it should be a cracker. We could do with a win to push us back up the league.”
