Blackpool FC announces ticket sales in memory of Jimmy Armfield

Blackpool's home match ticket sales from last night's 1-0 victory over Charlton Athletic raised Â£10,981 for Trinity Hospice, the club said.

The club announced the proceeds of home tickets sold following the death of Jimmy Armfield would be given to the hospice, where he was president, in his memory, but bad weather had forced the original fixture, on Saturday, January 27, to be postponed.

Profits from match programmes will also be given, the club said in a statement, with a final figure expected in the coming days.

Thousands of pounds have already been donated to the hospice, in Low Moor Road, Bispham, while number two shirts worn by the players will also be raffled off.

Jimmy, also a respected broadcaster, philanthropist, loving family man and dear friend to many, died on Monday, January 22, after a long fight against cancer.

He was 82.

His funeral, held at the South Shore church where he played the organ, was attended by stars of the sporting world.
