The young full-back joined the club from Blackpool last month and has impressed after being thrust straight into Dave Challinor’s starting line-up.

Wilson’s loan deal expires on Saturday week but he hopes to stay on with the National League North leaders.

He said: “Since I’ve joined the group I’ve really enjoyed it. They are a great set of lads and they’ve welcomed me in, so I’ve enjoyed it very much so far.

“When I got told I had interest from AFC Fylde I was really pleased because I’m from Lytham, so it’s a local club doing very well.

“I’ve been to a few AFC Fylde games in the past, and I knew they played good football and do all the right things.

“My loan finishes on the 17th but hopefully I can extend that. That’s not down to me, though – it’s down to Blackpool and Fylde, so we will have to wait and see.”

The Fylde faithful have warmed to the youngster following some committed displays and Wilson admits he isn’t one to shirk a tackle.

He added: “Since I’ve been a young lad, I’ve always loved a tackle. There are other sides to my game that I enjoy but tackling is one of my main attributes.

“I really enjoy the physical side of the game, tackling, heading and stuff like that.”

Although Wilson is cup-tied for Saturday’s FA Trophy first-round tie at home to Brackley Town, the defender is delighted to have played in a winning team.

“Everyone is buzzing to be seven points clear at the top of the league,” he said.

“Everyone’s happy and we just hope we can carry on our good form and take it on further. It is frustrating to be cup-tied for the FA Trophy but I played in the competition for Bamber Bridge in the earlier stages.

“I just want to play every game possible and I’m disappointed I won’t be able to play on Saturday because I love being out there on the pitch.

“We have goals through the team but Danny Rowe is brilliant. He’s a natural finisher and I’m not surprised one bit that he has reached 100 goals for Fylde in such a quick time because his finishing is unreal.”
