Blackpool boss warns Rovers could face a style trial

Blackpool manager Gary Bowyer says it will be interesting to see how Doncaster Rovers adapt their game on the Bloomfield Road pitch for their Good Friday clash.

It is a style of play Bowyer admits he is “fond of”, but the Pool boss believes Doncaster might have to alter their game a little bit due to the poor state of Blackpool’s pitch.

He said: “It comes down to how you play and how you want to play. Darren has a hell of a reputation for producing teams that play good football.

“He loves the diamond system and they play it ever so well. You saw that on television the other week against Bradford.

“I’ve given up trying to adapt to it.

“It is a good system. I grew up with my Dad at Nottingham Forest and they played the diamond and played it ever so well.

“So it’s always been a formation that I’m particularly fond of and I like the way Doncaster play it.

“What you do need is a very good pitch to play it because it’s obviously a passing game. Unfortunately at this moment in time we don’t have that.

“Whether they will adapt and change for that, I don’t know.

“But it’s about us concentrating on ourselves. Our own form is good, we’re unbeaten in our last six games here at home which goes back to December so we’ve got to keep that going.”

Doncaster, who were promoted from League Two alongside Blackpool last season, currently sit one point and one position below Bowyer’s men in the league table.

In fact all four sides promoted from the fourth tier appear to be safe from relegation.

“The only team that surprises me is Plymouth with the run they’ve had,” Bowyer added.

“Fair play to them with the way they have gone about it because they’ve got themselves up there.

“I’m only saying that on the back of us going down there and beating them in the early part of the season when things weren’t going great for them. So they’ve turned it around and have produced a wonderful run.”
