Blackpool boss waits on top targets

Blackpool manager Gary Bowyer is still unsure whether he will be able to sign midfielder Jay Spearing and defender Adam Henley, admitting the matter is out of his control.

Both free agents have been training with the Seasiders, who remain keen to bolster their squad after an impressive start back in League One.

Bowyer knows both players from his time in charge of Blackburn Rovers and has made no secret of his desire to sign them.

The Pool boss said: “All I can do is keep looking at the free agents who are available and keep bringing them to the club, but it’s out of my hands.

“If they like the environment we have got, then it’s down to the money men – the chairman and the agent of the player.

“I would love both of them in the squad because of the quality they posses. To get two of that quality would be brilliant for us. I know them, so that makes the bedding-in process easier but it’s out of my hands.”

Focusing on who he has available, Bowyer praised Sessi D’Almeida and Sean Longstaff for their contributions to Tuesday’s goalless draw against Rochdale.

D’Almeida was the only change to the side which lost at Bristol Rovers and he produced another energetic performance, one which should have yielded a first-half goal.

His midfield partner Longstaff tried to add another long-range goal to his scrapbook, an audacious attempt from a free-kick near to the visitors’ dugout.

Bowyer revealed“Keith Hill (Rochdale manager) said to me, ‘Has he meant that?’ I said, ‘Yes’.

“That’s a measure of the lad and his quality. If you saw Sean’s reaction, he’s disappointed he hasn’t scored but that’s the vision and the confidence he’s got.

“We have to encourage skill like that. If it had gone in, then we’d be talking about a wonderful effort.

“Sessi had a bad injury last year and he’s playing catch-up. At the end he was running on empty.

“The future is bright for him as long as he keeps getting better.

The way he plays the game is phenomenal.”
