Blackpool boss takes one game at a time

Pool, who have won just two of their last 17 games, go in search of their first home win since October when they welcome the Saddlers to Bloomfield Road.

Walsall are struggling themselves and sit just two places and two points above the Seasiders, but Bowyer has played down the significance of the game.

He said: “These games get built up into massive games, six-pointers and all that. But for people who are in it, it’s just another game.

“If we were to win against Walsall, would you say next week is a massive game?

“In all seriousness, it’s three points and that’s the way we look at it.

“At this stage last year, we didn’t get to this stage and think ‘this game is massive’. We just treated each game as it came and that’s the way we’ll go about it this time.”

Blackpool earned a 1-1 draw at the Bescot Stadium in the reverse game earlier in the season, Viv Solomon-Otabor scoring to cancel out Erhun Oztumer’s free kick.

Bowyer added: “We were very good first half but we were undone by a wonderful free kick – although it was never a foul in a month of Sundays.

“This time we’ve got to make sure we’re right and have a right good go at them.

“But they’re an experienced team, they’ve been in this league for a while so they know what it’s all about, so that’s going to present a challenge.

“But it’s all about how we continue our form.

“It is about us and how we go and play with the ball, but at the same time if we don’t do any work off the ball then we’ll be punished.

“We’ve got to make sure we cover everything that we feel is needed to give us the maximum opportunity of winning the game on Saturday.

“Everyone is fit and healthy. So overall we’re pleased with the situation because it makes the squad competitive and players are playing for places.”
