Blackpool-born youngster signs pro deal with Manchester United

Blackpool-born youngster George Tanner has signed a professional contract with Premier League giants Manchester United.

Tanner, 18, is a talented wide player who was effective as a winger before he was converted to a full-back by the club’s coaches at Old Trafford.

An England U17 and U18 international, he has gained experience in the UEFA Youth League this season under the leadership of Nicky Butt.

Tanner has registered 27 appearances for the youth team in 2016/17 and has been praised by academy coach Kieran McKenna for his versatility and character.

McKenna said: "George is really versatile - he played as a midfield and forward in most of his academy days before making the conversion to full-back this year.

"He has taken on the role really well and is another modern full-back because he likes to get forward, deliver crosses and be a goal threat.

"He is another solid, dependable character and a fantastic trainer. He has a really good attitude and it's important to have people like that in your group."
