“It was a good goal, my first one so I will definitely never forget that,” Vardy said.

“I have made the run across the defender and the ball has come a bit behind, so I have had to adjust.

“The only chance I had of making a good connection with it was with a backheel flick and luckily have got enough power on it for it go into the net.

“Yeah, definitely it is the best moment of my career but I have still got plenty of time left in my career, so hopefully there will be more.”

Helping Leicester to the title would no doubt top it, continuing a remarkable journey few would have predicted.

“It’s a very close-knit group,” Vardy said. “It always has been and it always will be – and that is what you want in the dressing room.
