The Latvian millionaire revealed Armfield was one of the main reasons why he decided to invest in the club in 2006.

Belokon says Armfield will forever be remembered for his kindness, approachability and love for Blackpool FC.

“This is a very sad day for Blackpool Football Club as one of its greatest stars has left us," Belokon told The Gazette.

“I knew about Jimmy even before I was involved with the club: his devotion just to one club and his family, skills on the pitch and being a gentleman off the pitch.

“He served as an example to anyone.

“Meeting and talking to Armfield was always a pleasure and I will always remember him for his kindness, approachability, and love to Blackpool Football Club.

“In fact, meeting Armfield was one of the reasons I decided to invest in the club and when the South Stand was built – there were no discussions on its name.

“My condolences to his wife Anne and other family members. Jimmy is a legend and it will stay that way in our hearts.”
