Ball hopes he impressed in front of new Fleetwood Town boss

Ball was unaware that Uwe Rosler was in the ground watching what was to become alongside chairman Andy Pilley and technical director Gretar Steinsson in the directors box.

Rosler was unveiled as Town’s new boss fewer than 24 hours later and he witnessed Ball ripple the back of the net twice as he bundled in strike partner Ash Hunter’s cross from close range, sweetly swept Hunter’s knock-down into the bottom corner and won a penalty that Bobby Grant smashed home in their 4-3 defeat to Wigan.

Rosler got the chance to see Ball and Hunter’s flourishing partnership and youngster Nick Haughton, Devante Cole and new boy Aaron Amadi-Holloway made cameos off the bench.

Amadi-Holloway caught the eye with his physical presence and neat touch but it was Ball and Hunter who did the damage.

Ball and the strikers will meet their new boss Rosler today as the German takes his first double training session at Town’s £8.5m Poolfoot Farm training complex, less than a week since former manager Steven Pressley handed in his resignation.

With Town’s wealth of attacking options it will be a tough decision for Rosler as to who gets the nod at Northampton.

But Ball did not do his chances any harm on Friday and the 26-year-old has looked sharp all pre-season.

And the striker says he is building up a good bond with Hunter after partnering him a number of times in a 4-4-2 formation this summer.

He said: “I feel fresh and really fit.

“We’ve had a tough pre-season and it is evident that the lads are getting fit.

“I think me and Ash do well (in a partnership).

“I’m on at him all the time and he probably needs that he is still learning the game and I’m trying to talk him through different aspects of the game and we have got a good bond there.

“For the first goal I just managed to get away from the defender and I’ve got a touch and it has gone in.

“It was a great ball (in from the right) by Ash.

“The second one Ash has won it and I’ve just tried to use the defender and guide it round him and into the bottom corner.”

It was the first time Amadi-Holloway has played for Town this pre-season after joining with a slight injury from Wycome Wanderers in the summer.

And Ball says there is a lot of competition for places and despite their different styles each of the strikers compliment each other.

He said: “But I think all of the strikers are all different in each way and contemplate each other and obviously seeing the big man (Aaron Amadi-Holloway) coming back tonight and Devante Cole playing there is a lot of competition and good players.

“Aaron gets hold of it he is strong, he is willing to run and he has a lovely touch so he will bring players into the game and hopefully he will be a big player for us.”

And Ball was pleased to get some more minutes under his belt ahead of the big kick-off.

He said: “I think we started off really bright against Wigan.

“We got the goal and then probably gave them too much in respect up to half-time and they scored some goals that on our behalf were a bit sloppy.

“Second half we got to grips with their middle three and got back in the game a bit.

“With the Gateshead game getting called off (on Wednesday) we did not get any minutes in there and it was good to get some minutes in ahead of Saturday.”
