Back to the grind for Blackpool's Potts

Blackpool's rejuvenated attacking midfielder Brad Potts says the team will learn from Barnet's devastating late equaliser.

The Bees’ John Akinde struck deep in stoppage-time to cancel out Mark Cullen’s superb strike at The Hive on Tuesday.

And Potts, who hit the post in north London, says the Seasiders must learn to grind out results as they prepare to face Wycombe at Bloomfield Road on Saturday.

The 22-year-old, who has been given a more attacking role this season by new manager Gary Bowyer, believes Pool responded well to Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Morecambe.

Potts said: “We had to bounce back after getting beaten. I think we were unlucky to lose on Saturday.

“The way we played in the first half at Morecambe, we should have been 3-0 up. Obviously it was not to be.

“We knew we needed a reaction and the main thing was to get something out of the game at Barnet .

“We did that but we are just gutted we did not get three points. The lads were devastated.

“I think that after scoring the goal we could have nicked a couple more on the break, especially my shot that hit the post.

“(Before the game) you would probably take a point away from home but because of the position we were in the lads are so gutted, especially considering how late the equaliser was.

“These things happen, so we can hopefully learn from them. If we are in that position again, then hopefully we can see the game through and get the three points. We just need to try to grind out the wins a bit more.”

Bright Osayi-Samuel was pushed up to join Potts up front in the dying moments.

It has been reported that scouts from Barnet’s top-flight neighbours Arsenal and Tottenham were at The Hive to watch starlet Osayi-Samuel.

Despite Barnet’s late leveller, Potts praised Pool’s defence for standing up strongly to the threat posed by Martin Allen’s side.

He said: “They were a physical side. There are a lot of teams like that in League Two but I think the defence handled it well. We work well together and we were just gutted not to get the three points.”
