Fleetwood Town are appealing Wes Burns' red card against Bradford and matchwinner Ash Hunter believes the decision to dismiss his fellow wing wizard was wrong.

Burns was sent off in the 43rd minute of Saturday’s 2-1 Highbury win over the Bantams for a sliding challenge on Adam Chicksen.Replays show that the Town forward was favourite to win the ball and did so, though his momentum propelled him into the Bradford man.If Town’s appeal is not a success, the 23-year-old will receive a three-match ban.Town will know the result of the appeal before Saturday’s trip to Sunderland.But Hunter, who scored Town’s all-important second goal in the 48th minute against the Bantams, says Town’s reaction to the red card showed the team spirit head coach Joey Barton has created.Hunter says Burns should not let the setback knock his confidence, insisting the Welshman will win Town plenty of games over the course of the 46-game League One season.He said of the dismissal: “I don’t think it is a red. “I did not think it was the right decision but it has shown the team spirit we have got here.“The lads have pulled him out and we came out with the victory.“The team spirit is class. Everyone is buzzing, especially after that win.“Everyone is fighting for the team, like we are with Wes. “He is going to win us loads of games this season. It is about us, a team.”Cian Bolger, Kyle Dempsey, Gethin Jones, Bobby Grant and Eddie Clarke were all left out of Saturday’s squad.And boss Barton explained that the calibre of players who were omitted shows the strength of his squad. He said: “I can only name 18. If they allowed me to name 21, they would be involved. We have got lads pushing hard.“James Wallace has come back in and Harrison Biggins is pushing hard. We have real competition for places.“The team talk was: ‘Just look at the players who cannot get in the side’.“We have a great squad and that team is building.“The connections are building. The belief is building and you see that in performances.“But the lads who did not play are all in there (the dressing room) willing them on because they understand it is the team that will be successful, not the individual.”
