Aimson: We have to believe we'll stay up

One point from the last three games has left the Seasiders just one point above the bottom four, while Oldham’s win at Peterborough last night means only two points separate Pool in 18th place and the Latics in 22nd.

Manager Neil McDonald has been quick to point out that Pool have lost only two of their last seven and defender Aimson is convinced they will stay out of the drop zone.

He said: “We’ve pulled ourselves away from the bottom four once or twice recently. We have to believe we can stay up and not dwell on bad results for too long. We have to keep working hard and plugging away.”

The 21-year-old has featured in every game since making his loan move from Hull permanent last month.

His partnership with Tom Aldred in the heart of defence has won plaudits in recent weeks, though they have conceded three in two of the last three games.

An uncharacteristic mistake from keeper Colin Doyle handed Swindon their first goal on Saturday but that didn’t worry Aimson.

He said: “Obviously Colin apologised to us all but it happens and it’s forgotten as far as we are concerned.

“Every keeper and every player will make mistakes in their career. We had another 60 or 70 minutes to play.

“He’s a top keeper and I’m sure it will just be a blip. We have to go again against Bradford on Saturday.”

But Aimson admits the players were hurting after the Swindon game.

“We were all devastated, especially to score two goals away from home and not win,” he said.

“Some of our play was good. It was just a frustrating afternoon. We were unlucky and we could easily have got a point on another day.”
