Speaking to The Gazette yesterday, Challinor said: “We’re still looking a little bit towards loans now they are becoming available but we’ll keep persevering.

“The next week or so is important for us because ideally I’d like to have two or three bodies in by the end of that in order for us to have a week to 10 days of preparation before the start of the season.

“We’re hoping to get one done tomorrow, a forward player, so fingers crossed that gets across the line.”

The latest player to join for the Mill Farm club was former Blackpool forward Danny Philliskirk, who signed a two-year deal with the Coasters after being released by the Seasiders at the end of last season.

He scored 11 times in 72 appearances for the Seasiders after moving from Oldham in January 2016.

The 27-year-old has spent most of his career in League One, so Challinor was delighted to seal his signature for the National League outfit.

“He’s one who can play in a number of positions,” the manager added.

“He just needs to get back playing and to rediscover the form that everyone knows he has.

“He will be great for us. In the short time he’s been with us, we can tell he’s a great lad and he’s been really infectious in terms of his workrate and desire.

“He’s got lots of quality, so if we can get him on the ball in the right areas, and people are willing to make runs, then he should not only be able to get some goals but also to provide other people with opportunities too.

“So it was great to get him in and he’s fitted in really well. He’ll be a really good player for us.”

Apart from Philliskirk, Fylde have also brought in Luke Burke, Neill Byrne, Ryan Croasdale and Russell Griffiths this summer.

Fylde bounced back from their 6-1 defeat by Preston with Tuesday’s 4-0 win at Squires Gate. Their pre-season programme continues tomorrow at home to Carlisle United (3pm).
