AFC Fylde boss Jim Bentley 'shocked' by quality of league reveals owner

The Coasters look forward to welcoming Perkins back after a three-game ban for today’s National League North match at Hereford.

Haythornthwaite told the club website: “I’m pleased with some of the decisions we’ve made and maybe some that I questioned.

“I think my favourite player and the best player so far has been Perkins, the oldest player on the park.

“He’s been fantastic but unfortunately he got sent off at Curzon Ashton and we missed him for three games.”

Team boss Nick Chadwick agrees and told The Gazette: “Perks is available for Hereford and we have missed him and his experience.

“Perks, Chris Neal and one or two others bring a real knowhow to the team and it will be good to get that back.”

In two of the games missed by Perkins, the Coasters have conceded stoppage-time equalisers and the chairman questions whether that would have happened with the veteran in the side.

“In the last game against Bradford Park Avenue we had arguably our three best players out and they are the spine of the side,” Haythornthwaite added.

“We were without Nick Haughton up front, our playmaker extraordinaire having his best season, Perks in the middle spraying the balls around and Pondy (Nathan Pond) at the back, captain and leader.

“To play without those three and almost win that game I think says something about the strength of the squad.

“I’ve been pleased with Ben Tollitt and Nathan Shaw. With Jordan Hulme up front you know what you are going to get: work, work, work and he creates something out of nothing.

“Danny Philliskirk has been fantastic. If we had 10 Danny Philliskirks on the park the opposition would never have the ball. We have some tough games coming up but we can look forward to them.”
