The 23-year-old defender joins Fylde following a spell with Brazilian club and Copa Libertadores champions Ferroviária.

Barroso was picked up by the Brazilian outfit after her fantastic performances for Argentine side UAI Urquiza after they finished third in last year’s Copa Libertadores.

Named Argentina Women’s Player of the Year in 2014, Barroso progressed through the national youth ranks and Fylde manager Luke Swindlehurst was delighted to have the full-back on board.

Swindlehurst said: “I’m absolutely delighted that we have managed to secure a full international. Bringing in a defender with experience at the highest level is a very exciting for us.

“It’s a sign of things to come and I’m sure this will be a big step in the right direction. She can speak English which is a huge benefit to us and we hope she adjusts to life in England quickly.

“She is a quick, tough tackling defender with very good positional sense so I’m sure with Agus on board we will have a solid foundation to build on.”

Barroso added: “It’s one of the most important experiences in my career and I’m looking forward to giving my best for my new team.”

Next season’s squad strengthening has continued with the addition of two more young stars.

Everton midfielder Eve Kennerley (20) and Manchester City winger Chloe Adams (19) hope to establish themselves in Swindlehurst’s side.

The ladies team have already sealed deals for England star Natasha Flint and Arsenal goalkeeper Hollie Augustus amongst others as they look to win promotion to the Womens Super League 2.

Kennerley said: “I’m really looking forward to this new challenge and the new season ahead.

“I am confident, as are all the other girls, that we will have a strong campaign. I can’t wait to develop more and more as a player and work hard this season for myself and the team.”

Adams added: “I’m very happy to have signed for Fylde and now I’m relishing the new season kicking off. This is a huge new challenge and a real chance to progress further as a player.”

Swindlehurst believes the new duo add yet more quality to the squad, saying: “It’s a very positive move for us. Both players are ambitious and have the qualities needed to be successful. They have been very good in training over the last two weeks and I’m delighted to add both to the squad.

“They are both used to being in elite environments and their professionalism and focus are exactly they kind of qualities that we are looking for.”
