AFC Fylde camp looks forward to Chorley rematch

The Coasters go into the game, hoping to atone for Boxing Day’s defeat at Victory Park and having seen Bank Holiday Monday’s game with Southport fall victim to Covid-19 in the Sandgrounders’ camp.

Fylde go into tomorrow’s game sitting sixth in the National League North table, nine points behind leaders Gloucester City but with three games in hand.

They have only won once in their last six league matches but Chadwick isn’t getting carried away by the club’s recent indifferent run of results.

He said: “At different times you will face these bumps in the road but it’s how you overcome them and continue to move forward.

“How you go forward is important and that’s why we were disappointed with the game not going ahead on Monday.

“We had the players in on Sunday – which we wouldn’t have done if we had known the game was going to be off – but the players are working hard.

“There are no problems with the application of the players, it’s a good group and they want to do well, which is a great starting point.

“We want to get back to winning ways and we want to get back to good performances.

“We feel we’ve played well, even in the games where we conceded late equalisers, so we need to make sure we keep performing well and playing the way we want to play.

“It will be nice to get back to Mill Farm, that’s for sure, but this time of year is the same for everyone. It’s a busy time and there are a lot of games still to be played.”

The key tomorrow could be how the Coasters deal with Chorley’s set-pieces.

With the score 1-1 at half-time on Boxing Day, two second-half set-pieces brought the goals which ultimately proved the difference between the teams.

“We’ve spoken enough about it and we conceded two goals quite quickly which knocked the stuffing out of us,” Chadwick said.

“Take the goals out of the game on Boxing Day and it was still a fairly even game.

“We made Chorley work hard and Jamie (Vermiglio, Chorley boss) had spoken about set-pieces, so we knew they were a threat.

“Even then, the first goal came from a throw-in so it’s something we know we’re going to have to tighten up on.”
