With the coronavirus pandemic having caused the postponement of the vast majority of matches, a crowd of 304 saw the Mechanics beaten by two second-half goals at Jepson Way.

It was the visitors who struck first as Sam Knowles opened the scoring on 20 minutes, heading home from Ben Langford’s corner.

Parity was restored 10 minutes later, however, when Joe Robinson equalised for the Mechanics.

However, the visitors led again at half-time when Jamie Edwards restored their lead with the break approaching.

The Mechanics levelled for a second time 12 minutes after half-time with Mark Buchan finding the net.

Nevertheless, two goals in the last 20 minutes meant it was the visitors who departed with the points.

Leon Creech was the man responsible, putting Darwen ahead for a third time on 69 minutes before wrapping up victory with his second goal five minutes from time.
