LYTHAM Ladies defeated Kirkby Stephen 5-2 to replace them in third place in North West division two.
The visitors started strongly and forced keeper Claire Turner into some early saves before Lytham’s superior passing game began to make a difference.
Danielle Bamber and Gemma Trickett scored following neat one-twos in midfield, but Kirkby upped their game and mounted waves of attacks, levelling the scores by half time despite more outstanding saves from Turner.
Lytham changed strategy for the second half as Amy Horrocks’ well-timed tackles nullified any threat and her team were soon in the ascendency.
Gilly Harrison ended a good passing move by making it 3-2 with a rebounded shot, and Sophia Crawshay made it four with a powerful drive from one of many powerful runs into the D.
Natasha Singleton ran strongly down the right and slipped the ball back for Harrison to put the result beyond any doubt from inside the D.
Lytham Seconds had no match and the Thirds were beaten 4-0 by Leyland and Chorley’s senior side in Lancashire Central division two. Lytham did have good spells of possession but could not match their opponents’ finishing.
