Fleetwood had booked their place in the final with a five-wicket win over Darwen in the day’s first semi-final.

Darwen had chosen to bat and set a target of 118-7, with opener David Bowden scoring 41 and Pat Ashton keeping the visitors in check by taking 4-16 from his four overs.

Adam Parker then spearheaded the Fleetwood reply with 43, including seven fours and a six, as Fleetwood reached their target with five balls remaining at 122-5.

Morecambe were convincing seven-wicket winners over Netherfield in the other semi to set up Sunday evening’s decider.

Skipper Clark said afterwards: “It has been a fantastic occasion for both the club and the players. The support was tremendous and it was a great atmosphere.

“We felt the supporters cheered every ball and they were certainly our 12th man.

“We managed to dodge the weather and collect our first trophy of the season.

“We knew we were 30 or so runs short of our target in the final but we knew if we could bowl and field well, then we’d turn the game on its head. It’s a great motivation for the rest of the season.”

Rossall School student James Amor, 15, received the man of the match award after taking three Morecambe wickets, including professional Saeed Anwar who he caught and bowled.

He said: “It was really fantastic to win after coming back from such a poor position. It was a great bowling performance from the lads and a great feeling to bowl their professional out.

“He was our most important target and I then managed another two wickets to get us over the line.”
