Lancashire’s cricketers had a battle on their hands to avoid a second defeat in the County Championship against Warwickshire at Old Trafford.
Starting the day in their second innings on 46 without loss, by lunch they had been reduced to 105 for four.
That was a lead of 28 runs with six wickets remaining on the final day.
Lancashire lost Luis Reece, Andre Agathagelou, Ashwell Prince and Luke Procter as the visitors struck in the Wednesday morning session.
But Lancashire were aided by a defiant knock from opener Paul Horton.
At lunch he was 65 not out, spearheading Lancashire’s bid to stave off defeat.
It was Peter Moores’ last day as Red Rose coach prior to taking on the England job.
