Young Fylde cricketer Toby Lester is set to be rewarded for breaking into the Lancashire CCC team with a two-year professional contract.
Toby, 22, from Poulton, only made his debut in Ashley Giles’ squad in July after a series of impressive performances for the county’s second string.
The left-arm paceman grabbed three wickets on debut against Essex and was then part of Lancashire’s successful promotion-winning team.
It marks an incredible rise for the former Baines High School student who just five years ago was playing for Fylde CC second team in the Palace Shield.
He said: “I’m absolutely delighted to have been given my chance and it’s been a brilliant few months around the first team.
“I’ve been trying to keep performing with the second team and working hard at training sessions and I can’t wait to get going next season.”
Toby flies to India next month to play in the University World Finals with the Loughborough University T20 champions, who are representing Great Britain.
A full announcement on next season’s squad is expected next week.
